nomen festi apud Athenienses. Etymologic. M. a. Hesych. Suid. Α᾿ῤρηφορία, ἑορτὴ ἐπιτελουμένη τῇ Α᾿θηνᾷ εν Σκιῤροφοριῶνι μηνὶ λέγεεαι δὲ διὰ τοῦ Α. παρὰ τὸ ἄῤρητα καὶ μυςτήρια φέρειν ἢ τὰν διὰ τοῦ Ε. παρὰ την` Ε῞ρσιν, την` Κέκροπος θυγατέρα, Ε῾ρσιφορία. Ταύτη γὰρ ἦγον την` ἑορτην´. Arrhephoria festum quod celebratur Minervae mense Scirrhophorone. Profertur autem vel per A. (quasi Αῤρητοφορία) a secretorum et mysteriorum gestatione; vel per E. Hersephoria, ab Hersefilia Cecropis, quod illi festum agerent. Ordinabantur autem IV. Α᾿ῤρηφόροι virgines ex nobilitate, Harpocrationi in Α᾿ῤρηφ. In Etymologico vero non virgines, sed pueri, ab anno aetatis septimo ad undecimum, Sacrorum fuêre administri. Festum Erichthonium spectabar, cuius fabulam narrat Apollodorus l. 3. et Ovid. Met. l. 2. v. 554. Nempe Erichthonium, prolem sine matre creatam. Pallas vimineae cistae inclusum Aglauro, Hersi et Pandroso, filiabus Cecropis, servandam dederat, eâ lege ne cistam secreta sua continentem introspiecerent. Sed Aglauros et Herse eam resignant, Infantemque vident exporrectumque draconem. Pandrosus sola fidem in deposito servavit,Pausan. l. 1. Hincigitur serpens et cistula in his Sacris, sed et in Bacchicis, Catullô teste in Epithal. Thetidis.
